Cosmpolitan. Asian species that was introduced to Europe in the 1840s and then spread around the world in human habitations (synanthrope). Can be a serious pest due to larvae's ability to feed on foodstuffs, clothes, carpeting, and so on. Only member of its monotypic genus.
